On August 31, 2026, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Society for Special Persons (SSP) held a wheelchair distribution ceremony in Lahore, with Minister for Minorities Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora joining as the chief guest. During the event, 550 wheelchairs were distributed to individuals with disabilities across the Punjab community.
A unique aspect of this project is SSP's empowering model, where people with disabilities make wheelchairs for others with disabilities. Under this initiative, the Church sponsored the donation of the wheelchairs, while SSP provided assessments, volunteer training, wheelchair fitting services, and assembly and maintenance training.
With properly fitted wheelchairs, beneficiaries are empowered to become more socially engaged and gain greater access to employment opportunities. The increased mobility also improves their physical health and quality of life by helping to prevent common complications such as pressure sores and the progression of deformities, while supporting better respiration and digestion.
Including two previous donations made in recent years, the Church has now donated a total of 1,200 wheelchairs to communities across Punjab through its partnership with SSP.
